[AX Leaders] Lomin Facilitates AI Transformation in Public and Financial Sectors with Document AI"

Lomin is actively driving AI transformation (AX) in the public and financial sectors with its advanced Document AI technology, including AI-powered Optical Character Recognition (OCR). Document AI refers to intelligent automation technology that enables artificial intelligence to read, comprehend, extract, and learn from documents.

At the forefront is Lomin’s flagship solution, “Textscope Reader,” an AI OCR engine capable of accurately digitizing even low-quality or degraded documents. It is the only solution in Korea that recognizes printed, handwritten, and typed characters. Trained on massive datasets using deep learning, it delivers industry-leading recognition accuracy—performance that has been objectively verified by public institutions.

A key strength lies in converting historical paper documents into digital assets that can be used as training data for AI. The solution supports Korean, Hanja, and English, and even achieves near-perfect accuracy on legacy fonts used in government documents.

Lomin foresees growing adoption of Document AI among document-heavy enterprises aiming to secure proprietary AI training data. As internal data is essential to building and refining enterprise AI systems, digitizing paper-based records is a necessary first step.

In addition, “Textscope Doc Parser” detects tables, characters, and images within documents and transforms both structural and non-textual elements into usable data—enabling the full utilization of all information embedded in documents.

CEO Kang Jihong: “Document AI to Expand Across Financial and Public Sectors”

Lomin plans to expand its supply of AI OCR technology to financial institutions and public agencies that have historically relied heavily on document processing. The company has already secured more than 20 clients in these sectors, including Kyobo Life Insurance, the National Archives of Korea, and the Korean Intellectual Property Office.

“Finance is the most IT-intensive industry and, along with the public sector, offers abundant opportunities due to its document-heavy workflows,” said CEO Jihong Kang. “Lomin will strategically expand its business with a focus on financial and public markets.” He added that Lomin is developing an AI agent specialized for the securities industry to deliver tailored services to analysts and clients.

The company is also exploring entry into the trade documentation market. “Global trade involves an enormous volume of paper-based communication across borders, yet digital transformation in this area remains underdeveloped,” said Kang. “We plan to build a system that can process trade-related documents and begin our global expansion in earnest.”

To further diversify its business, Lomin is preparing to expand language support, beginning with Japanese—reflecting high document usage and global demand in Japan. The roadmap also includes recognition of Chinese (leveraging existing Hanja capabilities), as well as French, German, and Italian based on their Latin alphabet.

“Our goal is to evolve into a Document AI-specialized agent company that supports the development and advancement of AI,” Kang emphasized. “We aim to become one of the top two players in Korea’s Document AI market and will complete our first round of investment within Q3 to scale R&D and enhance our services.”

Document AI Gains Momentum in Finance and Public Sectors: Lomin and Upstage Stand Out

The market for Document Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered by Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology is rapidly expanding. In document-intensive sectors such as finance and public administration, organizations are actively building datasets using AI OCR technologies and accelerating internal adoption of AI and data-driven workflows.

According to industry reports on the 20th, Lomin and Upstage are emerging as leading players in the Document AI space. Utilizing AI OCR, both companies provide highly refined digitalization services capable of analyzing not only Korean but also historical scripts, English and other foreign languages, along with various document formats, images, and tables. Their solutions help convert raw data into structured, actionable information.

The engine delivers exceptional recognition accuracy and processing performance, especially for low-quality documents with noise. A key strength of the solution is its ability to recognize printed, handwritten, and typewritten text with high precision.

In collaboration with the National Archives of Korea, Lomin developed a typewritten character recognition system for Korean, achieving over 98% recognition accuracy. It also digitized historical government documents for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission by recognizing English typewritten characters. Furthermore, Lomin’s technology, capable of identifying special character attributes, is currently being used to analyze chemical experiment data for the Korean Intellectual Property Office.
