Lomin Completes Document AI Pilot Project with Korea Post Headquarters – Handwritten Document Recognition Successfully Implemented at Service Counters

Document AI specialist Lomin Inc. (CEO Jihong Kang) announced on the 29th that it has successfully completed the "Study on the Introduction of AI-based Handwriting Recognition System" commissioned by the Korea Post Headquarters.

This initiative aimed to improve recognition accuracy for handwritten documents generated during counter services such as parcel reception and savings transactions, and to automate repetitive tasks. Through its advanced Document AI technology, Lomin demonstrated the potential for digital transformation in post office operations.

During the project, Lomin developed specialized recognition models for five types of handwritten documents, including parcel forms and deposit slips. Pilot systems were deployed at Dongjak Post Office in Seoul and Southern Bucheon Post Office in Gyeonggi Province to validate effectiveness. The result was a document recognition rate of 95%, surpassing the initial target. Notably, 94% of the recognized data was immediately usable in operations without additional verification.

The recognition results were integrated directly into Korea Post’s internal system, PostNet, enabling counter staff to utilize the results without additional confirmation or manual uploads. This streamlined the traditional multi-step verification process, improving both operational convenience and document processing speed.

Following the system’s implementation, monthly usage volume surged approximately 22 times compared to initial deployment levels. Lomin further enhanced handwriting recognition performance and automation coverage by optimizing form templates and restructuring data formats for the counter environment.

The solution also incorporated features tailored to post office workflows—such as visualization of extracted information, automatic address correction, and data validation—reducing repetitive data entry and improving accuracy in document handling.

Jihong Kang, CEO of Lomin, stated, “This project is a meaningful example of Document AI technology generating tangible results in the public sector,” and added, “We are committed to expanding the system nationwide to enhance the quality of postal services.”

Lomin was also recognized for its contribution to advancing digital technology in postal operations, receiving a commendation from the Ministry of Science and ICT.

Lomin Completes AI OCR System for Automating Kyobo Life's Retirement Pension Claims

Document AI specialist Lomin (CEO Jihong Kang) announced on the 25th that it has successfully completed the implementation of an AI-powered Optical Character Recognition (OCR) system for Kyobo Life Insurance’s retirement pension claims intake process.

Lomin's solution automates the classification and data extraction of both structured and unstructured documents, including Defined Benefit (DB) pension claim forms, retirement income withholding tax receipts, and Defined Contribution (DC) pension application forms. By automatically identifying key data fields, the system streamlines the entire claims intake process.

Kyobo Life reported improved operational efficiency and enhanced customer service quality following the deployment. This marks the second collaboration between the two companies, building on the success of their previous AI OCR project for accident insurance claims. In that project, Lomin helped reduce the claims processing time to the industry's fastest level, according to disclosures by the Korea Life Insurance Association in the first half of 2023.

Lomin’s Document AI platform, Textscope® Studio, offers specialized AI OCR capabilities tailored for the financial sector. It supports diverse text formats—such as printed and typewritten characters—and enables comprehensive document processing through technologies including document parsing, semantic understanding, and MLOps for continuous model training and deployment.

CEO Jihong Kang stated, “We are pleased to deliver meaningful results in partnership with Kyobo Life. Moving forward, we aim to further expand the deployment of automated document processing systems based on our advanced Document AI capabilities.”

Meanwhile, Lomin is currently undertaking the largest AI OCR system project in Korea in collaboration with Mirae Asset Securities. This initiative focuses on automating processes related to deferred taxation on retirement pensions, including the recognition and classification of retirement-related tax documents.
