Lomin Completes Document AI Pilot Project with Korea Post Headquarters – Handwritten Document Recognition Successfully Implemented at Service Counters
Document AI specialist Lomin Inc. (CEO Jihong Kang) announced on the 29th that it has successfully completed the "Study on the Introduction of AI-based Handwriting Recognition System" commissioned by the Korea Post Headquarters.
This initiative aimed to improve recognition accuracy for handwritten documents generated during counter services such as parcel reception and savings transactions, and to automate repetitive tasks. Through its advanced Document AI technology, Lomin demonstrated the potential for digital transformation in post office operations.
During the project, Lomin developed specialized recognition models for five types of handwritten documents, including parcel forms and deposit slips. Pilot systems were deployed at Dongjak Post Office in Seoul and Southern Bucheon Post Office in Gyeonggi Province to validate effectiveness. The result was a document recognition rate of 95%, surpassing the initial target. Notably, 94% of the recognized data was immediately usable in operations without additional verification.
The recognition results were integrated directly into Korea Post’s internal system, PostNet, enabling counter staff to utilize the results without additional confirmation or manual uploads. This streamlined the traditional multi-step verification process, improving both operational convenience and document processing speed.
Following the system’s implementation, monthly usage volume surged approximately 22 times compared to initial deployment levels. Lomin further enhanced handwriting recognition performance and automation coverage by optimizing form templates and restructuring data formats for the counter environment.
The solution also incorporated features tailored to post office workflows—such as visualization of extracted information, automatic address correction, and data validation—reducing repetitive data entry and improving accuracy in document handling.
Jihong Kang, CEO of Lomin, stated, “This project is a meaningful example of Document AI technology generating tangible results in the public sector,” and added, “We are committed to expanding the system nationwide to enhance the quality of postal services.”
Lomin was also recognized for its contribution to advancing digital technology in postal operations, receiving a commendation from the Ministry of Science and ICT.
