“Lomin is a Document AI company that enables artificial intelligence to read documents as precisely as we do with our eyes, and to fully understand the content within them,” said Kang Ji-hong, CEO of Lomin, during an appearance on the Economic Signal 10 segment of DealSite Economy TV on the 16th.

Kang explained, “Eighty percent of the world’s data is unstructured. We provide technology that transforms this data into ‘AI-Native data’—data that artificial intelligence can use directly as fuel. Based on refined, high-quality data, we help companies leverage AI to create new value and enhance operational efficiency.”

As Korea’s leading Document AI company, Lomin supplies solutions to more than 60 clients across the financial sector and public institutions. Its proprietary technology for converting unstructured documents into AI-friendly data has also earned recognition from global research firm Gartner, which named Lomin a representative vendor in Intelligent Document Processing.

“Traditional systems struggled to process complex documents such as contracts or medical records, leaving much of it as dark data,” Kang noted. “Lomin extracts both text and contextual meaning from diverse document formats, automatically classifying and structuring them so that employees can be freed from repetitive tasks and focus on higher-value work.”

According to Kang, Lomin’s key differentiator is its Vision-Language Model (VLM) technology. Beyond simple OCR, the technology understands layouts, tables, and images within documents, enabling structured outputs at the semantic level. “For example, our system can accurately link a surgery date with a diagnosis across multiple insurance documents. The high-quality data generated then integrates with large language models (LLMs), producing more accurate results,” he said.

Lomin has partnered with numerous clients in finance and the public sector. The Korea Post adopted Lomin’s handwriting recognition system to automatically process handwritten parcel and mail forms at post office counters nationwide. Tasks previously handled manually by staff were automated with a 95 percent recognition rate, significantly accelerating counter operations. This reduced customer wait times, alleviated repetitive workloads for employees, and improved service quality—achievements that led to recognition from the Minister of Science and ICT.

In the insurance sector, Heungkuk Life Insurance leveraged Lomin’s Textscope to reduce claims processing time from one to two days to just 10 seconds. Kyobo Life Insurance halved the time required for claim payments from 4.8 hours to 2.4 hours, achieving the industry’s fastest turnaround as of the first half of 2023, according to the Korea Life Insurance Association.

More recently, Lomin has been conducting pilot programs with NH NongHyup Bank using its next-generation solution, Textscope 2.0. The system incorporates results from human validation directly into training data, making the platform progressively more accurate over time. This self-learning feature shows potential for widespread adoption across the financial sector.

Security has also been strengthened. Lomin primarily provides on-premises server deployments, blocking external data leakage at the source. Its document processing applies de-identification and encryption of personal information, and the company has secured certifications as an “Innovative Product” and a “Superior Procurement Product,” meeting strict public-sector security and technical standards. “We are fully prepared to ensure that clients handling sensitive information can use our solutions with complete confidence,” Kang emphasized.

Kang concluded by outlining Lomin’s long-term vision: “Our ultimate goal is to build a Document AI Agent capable of not only reading and understanding documents but also making judgments. By applying next-generation VLM technology and expanding into cloud SaaS, we aim to empower enterprises worldwide to break free from complex document workflows and focus on more creative and valuable pursuits.”

Lomin was also selected in 2025 as an outstanding company for the Seoul Startup Hub and the Seoul Business Agency’s Open Innovation program, and is pursuing collaborations with major corporations.
