The National Archives successfully developed AI text recognition technology, making it possible to search typewritten records from the 1960s.
The National Archives of Korea has successfully developed a character recognition technology that allows easy and convenient searching and use of typewritten records from the 1960s to the 1990s, which were primarily used by the government. The National Archives announced on the 22nd that they had developed the first AI OCR (optical character recognition) technology in Korea for non-digital typewritten records by training about 220,000 Hangul typewritten words using deep learning. OCR is a technology that converts handwritten or machine-printed characters into machine-readable text. The National Archives developed this technology as part of a 2020 research and development project in collaboration with an AI startup, focusing on the development of OCR technology that considers the characteristics of archived records.
